Melanated Children's Mental Health

Over the course of 5 years I personally have not experienced anyone discussing the mental health of melanated children.

From birth black people face systematic disadvantages. It is a fact childhood experiences are directly correlated to the mental health of adults.

So I raise the question....

Why should one wait until adulthood to gain knowledge about mental health and adapt self-care practices?

As many know I'm the mother of two beautiful children. Over the expansion of 5 years I have gained a wealth of knowledge surrounding parenting. The most valuable thing learned is, children have a voice as well as a beautiful assortment of emotions. As a child everything is new, including learning how to express and deal with emotions in a healthy manner. Teaching a child how to express in a healthy manner is a job lead by parents.

  • Are children aware of the state of their mental health?

  • Do you know of any fun activities to promote self-care routines for a child?

  • What are safe/healthy coping mechanisms?

  • How can I boost my Childs self-esteem?

Answering these questions are my personal goals.

By the age of 4 children begin their journey to developing emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is learned based off ones responses to external stimuli.

During your Childs earliest experiences wouldn't you want a them to have a self care routine in place?

In hope to promote the self-care of melanated children, I have created a Children's "Self-Care" Box.

A "Self-Care" Box includes:

1- Long sleeved "Melanated Mind" T-shirt($20).

1- Customized "Melanated Mind" Journal($10).
